If you burned a candle the wax would tight rope at the top would burn

The thing that you use to light the candle burns first.

You have to cut up the elephant to put it in the refridgerator.

The wax on the outside of the candle burns first.  If it was the wick, then the wick would catch on fire quickly.

And for the elephant question... you could kill the elephant, cut it up, and put it in the fridge.

Well it obviously not the wick or your hand that burns, it's the gas in the lighter spontaneously igniting due to the combustion with oxygen.

And for the elephant, it's quite simple. You stick it's foot in the refrigerator. You didn't say the whole elephant nor did you mention anything about the refrigerator being able to close.
