No, as soon as you donate you get donator on forums and in-game. It's instant.

Also donating hurts the games economy as Kryptonite said, but it benefits you.

Donating can benefit the server and not hurt the economy, as long as you don't put any new items into the game (don't spend your donor points).

It's not like anyone has enough money, or items worth equal value, to purchase anything from the donator shop  ::)

Keeping them to yourself would make you richer anyway, regardless.
